iOS 7 gives some users nausea

September 19, 2013 Mobile Trends Content

iOS 7 gives some users nausea.

iOS 7 is out, it is really impressive and out performs iOS 6 as I experienced for myself on a friend’s iPhone 5.

However, a serious problem of the UI giving some users nausea is being overlooked by many Tech websites and bloggers. In fact one of them deleted my comment to their iOS 7 review on Facebook because I mentioned the “nausea” effect. I don’t think it is Apple encouraging them to ignore or delete anything from objective critics.

Many other people have complained about the nausea effect of iOS 7 and others have gone ahead to post it online.

Here are some of the comments I came across from users like me. Please don’t forget that I love my iPhone 4S and my Mac Mini:

#1. IOS 7 Motion Sickness

“After a few minutes of using IOS7 on my iPhone 5, I started getting a feeling of nausea and my head started to hurt. I’ve tried turning on the “reduce motion” thing in general settings and it doesn’t seem to help. I can’t use it for more than a minute or two before the nausea kicks in.”

#2. Some thing with the motion makes some users sick

“Okay, after three things that I like is something that I greatly dislike. There’s a lot of motion in the iOS 7 UX. Some of it is blatant and makes me feel nauseous, like the intro transition from the lock screen to the home screen (overkill in a big way, as app icons zoom by).”

#3. Serious nausea and an open letter to Apple about it

“I should state for the record that I’m perfectly aware my problems aren’t life-threatening and aren’t nearly as serious as those that affect many, many other people. I’m certainly not comparing temporary dizziness and sickness to being blind, say; I’m not suggesting motion sickness is as severe as motor limitations”

#4. iOS7 navigation triggers nausea and headaches

“The zoom animations everywhere on the new iOS 7 are literally making me nauseous and giving me a headache. It’s exactly how I used to get car sick if I tried to read in the car.”

#5. People are really getting sick. [Read the comments!]

“I don’t like it. I’m sure someone here will tell me it’s just in my head and that I’m crazy, but I feel like I get motion sickness looking at my phone. The motion of the background, the constant zooming in then zooming out of the folders. All that combined with bright icon colors and I get dizzy and a little nauseous using the phone now. Am I crazy or is anyone else feeling this way?”

I love Apple. It kicked serious life into smartphones. But when something is bad, it is bad. Maps were screwed up, that is a fact. The iOS 7 UI makes many people, that is a fact. Please make iOS 7.1 as soon as possible otherwise many of us will get into serious trouble.
